Observe, analyze, optimize
Our FinOps experts immediately delved into the Azure costs of everyoneINVESTED. Together with colleagues from Flowfactor, we looked at how we could optimize their resources and usage. But how exactly did we approach this? Let's go over it together:
Cost analysis and assessment
To gain a clear understanding of their Azure resource consumption, we conducted a comprehensive AzureCost Analysis. In doing so, we always consider several different factors:
- Resource types
What virtual machines are they using? Are there cheaper alternatives?
What about their storage capacity? - Orphaned resources
Which resources are they using (or not using anymore)? Which ones can we disconnect and remove? Is there room for automation? - Commitment-based discounts
Can we use reservations to reduce costs? Which plan fits best?
After our analysis, we immediately started on the optimizations. Thus, we have purchased a number of resource reservations to reduce their Azure costs. And we even went a step further.
Budgets, alerts, and cost overview
“To ensure that everyoneINVESTED no longer has to manually check their Azure usage, we have implemented budgets, alerts, and persona-based cost management views, ” says Ken Kenis, our FinOps expert. “Now they receive a daily overview of their current and projected costs, so they can quickly intervene if something is wrong.”
In addition, we also ensure a close follow-up. “Every six months, together with Flowfactor, we review the Azure costs of everyoneINVESTED”, Ken continues. “This way, no one gets any nasty surprises.”
