Matthias' journey: from a call to a bungalow park

Finding an internship that perfectly matches your interests is not always easy. For Matthias Theys, it all started with a simple phone call. As an ICT student, he was last-minute in search of an internship and decided to give us a call. Barely two days later, he was in our office, ready to discover what we had to offer. We clearly appreciate such a proactive attitude, because today he is one of our Customer Operations Engineers. Curious about how it all went down?

The ideal mix of sales and tech

We had an extensive list of internship projects ready, so Matthias could choose one that perfectly matched his interests. He ultimately opted for research into how we could further improve our customer service during and after migrations. "Sales has always fascinated me," says Matthias. "But at the same time, I wanted to explore the technical side. My internship at Arxus was the ideal combination of both aspects." 

Setting the stage for success

A key factor in the success of his internship? The coaching. "I received plenty of guidance from colleagues with experience in migrations," says Matthias. "They were happy to help me get started, and I could also turn to them for occasional questions. That gave me the confidence to grow and excel." 

The experience Matthias gained during his internship also proved very valuable for his current role as a Customer Operations Engineer. "In my current job, I often have to communicate with clients, and I learned a lot about that during my internship," says Matthias. "Of course, it also helps that I now know more about migration processes."

Versatility is key!

As a Customer Operations Engineer, Matthias solves a variety of IT-related problems for our clients on a daily basis. Every morning, new tickets are distributed among the team, ranging from login issues to setting up cloud infrastructure. 

"In a role like this, it's obviously important to have a close connection with your colleagues," he emphasises. "You can never know everything about every technology yourself, so you have to be able to help each other. Everyone has their own specialisation that you can turn to them for. Fortunately, there's an open atmosphere in our team: asking questions is always encouraged."

Building a team

At Arxus, we understand the importance of team spirit, so we regularly organise team-building activities. "For example, we went to a bungalow park with the whole team at the end of my first week," says Matthias enthusiastically. "So, I immediately felt part of the group. Such a close bond makes working together much better." 

In addition to the team spirit within the Cloud Operations team, Matthias also appreciates the opportunities for self-development at Arxus in general. "You can constantly learn about new technologies here and obtain certifications. Arxus really encourages you to keep growing in the direction you want."

When we ask Matthias for some advice for other applicants, he's clear: "Don't hesitate and just get in touch! From experience, I can say that Arxus values spontaneity and a proactive attitude. Who knows, maybe we'll see each other at the office soon!"
