Joeri is one of those people with an atypical path, who totally thrives with us at Arxus. He started his working life as a baker, but an allergy to flour forced him to abandon those plans. So, he went all in on his other great passion: IT! After some encouragement, he joined us and, well... He fits like the pudding in an eclair! Take a moment to read his story with us.

It was pure bad luck when Joeri found out, while training to be a baker, that he had a flour allergy. What now? He began the search for a new adventure and found that he was drawn to technology quite often, an interest he had had since childhood. He eventually started his career as a Tech Repair Specialist, where he learned to refine his skills. "I was able to gain quite a lot of experience there, in identifying and solving somewhat complex technical problems. It encouraged me to also set up virtual machines in my spare time and experiment with open-source firewall installations and the like", says Joeri. After some encouragement from his friends, he cautiously looked for the next challenge, the next level.
Even though he had now gained solid experience, Joeri remained somewhat unsure about his lack of an official degree in IT. But that is certainly not the most important thing for us. Because we could immediately tell from his technical case what strong skills and solid base of expertise he had. Andwelcomed him with open arms. Joeri: "It was a huge turning point for me. A world of possibilitiesopened up for me. Everything I now know about operations and cloud technologies and so on, I learned all here at Arxus.”
As both personal and professional growth are equally important for us at Arxus, we encouraged Joeri to keep exploring and learning. And he took every chance he got. Even though he started with the simpler things, such as expanding disks, he’s gradually become responsible for more complex projects in which he’s using advanced technologies to deliver top-notch results.
Also, his responsibilities keep growing and he’s being outsourced to clients more and more to help follow up on their projects and lend support. Joeri’s already contemplating the future too: “I’ve indicated that I’d like to evolve towards the Modern Workplace Team, and they’ve clearly heard me”, he states happily. “They’re already handing me tickets that are related to it and which they think I can solve and learn from. I’m really glad I can keep seeing myself taking next steps every once in a while.”
Today, Joeri helps colleagues with their onboarding processes as well, and makes sure their computers are set up properly, for instance. In addition, he’s a buddy for newcomers – someone who mentors them throughout their first days (and remains a first and trusted person to turn to). “I remember how invaluable I found the buddy system when I was starting out myself. In my case, my buddy was the Team Lead and he taught me all the tricks of the trade. Being on the other side, I can see how much the buddy system helps people get integrated within the Arxus family from day one”, Joeri believes.
That’s why he has a final message for potential new colleagues: “For anyone who’s pondering considering a career at Arxus, I’d say: go for it. It’s a place where development is stimulated, and your contributions are always valued. It’s about working together, innovation, and pushing the boundaries of technology. You won’t just find a job here but find yourself on a journey of continuous learning and making an impact that matters. Oh, and you’ll get a bunch of nice colleagues too, of course”, he concludes with a big smile.
